Wandering over to the Nick at Nite line-up online… hmm, what do we have here. Old classics like… MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE… GEORGE LOPEZ… THE NANNY…
Wait, WHAT?! Where is I LOVE LUCY? PETTICOAT JUNCTION? ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW? I remember staying up “late” (see: 10pm) to watch the old classics on Nick at Nite. Our parents must have loved hearing us talk about I DREAM OF JEANNIE’s “new episode,” but watching those shows gave us a link to the past and gave us something to watch when we slept over grandma’s house. They were a little glances into the 60’s and 70’s, the golden era of television, which gave way to many of the show formats we watch today.
Without a channel to call their own, I guess the kids of tomorrow will just have to watch the old shows on DVD. Here’s to hoping they never forget Lucy.
