Is 3rd Street Promenade the next Robertson?

For those who haven’t noticed, Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade has been under a bit of reconstruction recently. In 2008, the Santa Monica Place mall between Broadway and 3rd was torn down and has been completely redesigned since. With a grand opening date set in August 2010, things are starting to firm up.

Not only will the new Santa Monica Place be open air (more of an extension of 3rd St. rather than a mall), and home to many upscale eateries and fast-casual spots, the new shopping complex will also be anchored by a Bloomingdale’s, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, and Tory Burch – and just announced…Barney’s Co-op!

For those on the Westside, this is pretty huge news since it pretty much removes th need for those in Santa Monica, Venice, Pacific Palisades, or Brentwood to ever drive East of the 405 again…unless they want to hit traffic.
